The Tragedy of King James the First
The Tragedy of King James the First is a full-length Shakespearean reimagining of the story of LeBron James and his 2010 departure from the Cleveland Cavaliers to the Miami Heat (aka The Decision). Written predominantly in verse, this work makes satirical use of some of the Bard's most recognizable themes and motifs as it recasts its tale's key figures including LeBron, Dwyane Wade, Shaquille O'Neal and more as Elizabethan lords, courtesans and commoners who talk their trash in iambic pentameter and wage their campaigns on the hardwood. The play has been featured on Slate’s Hang Up and Listen podcast (where it was read aloud by legendary broadcaster Bob Costas!) as well as the AV Club and in Crain’s Cleveland Business.
